Mumford and Sons Ted Dwane from Mumford has op for blood clot on his brain

Mumford & Sons bassist Ted Dwane has been taken into hospital to have an operation to remove a blood clot on his brain.

The band revealed the news on their website, saying he had been feeling unwell for a few days.

"Yesterday he was taken to a hospital to receive emergency treatment," his band members wrote.

"The scans revealed a blood clot on the surface of his brain that requires an operation."

However, they said Ted is receiving excellent care and they are being assured he will recover quickly from the surgery.

Mumford & Sons are currently on tour in North America and have had to postpone three upcoming shows in Texas and New Orleans.

They said in their statement they have no plans to cancel or postpone any other shows on the current tour.

The Grammy and Brit award winning folk group also have a number of big UK shows coming up.

They are headlining Glastonbury festival later this month and playing at the Olympic Park in London on 6 July with Vampire Weekend and Ben Howard supporting them.
