Kings of Leon album due in September

Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon will release a new album, Mechanical Bull, on September 24.

The US rock group have been working on a follow-up to 2010's Come Around Sundown, which topped the album chart in the UK.

Details of the new album were confirmed by American TV host Jimmy Fallon on his late-night chat show.

The band had been expected to perform at the Governors Ball festival in New York on Friday, but their set was cancelled because of high winds.

Kings of Leon are made up of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill, and their cousin Matthew Followill.

They formed in Tennessee in 1999.

In August 2011, the group denied they were breaking up after cancelling two months of gigs on their US tour.

They failed to finish a concert in Dallas after Caleb Followill, who denied being drunk, left the stage with three songs remaining.

Kings of Leon will headline the V Festival in Staffordshire and Essex in August.
