Biffy Clyro have headlined the Saturday night at Radio 1's Big Weekend.
The Scottish trio performed a set full of hits as rain fell in Londonderry's Ebrington Square.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland said they were "encouraged at the success of the event" in Derry, with a "small number of arrests" so far.
"We continue to appeal to people attending the concert to adhere to police advice and be responsible in relation to their alcohol intake."
Biffy Clyro lead singer Simon Neil, told the crowd his band "were going to make it special".
As the set ended, he said it had been "a wonderful night".
Speaking afterwards bassist James Johnston said: "We've been a band for 15 years. We've played a lot of shows but that has gone straight to the top."
Their performance finished with Black Chandelier and a mass sing-a-long, with added pyrotechnics, to Mountains.
Emily Jamison, 19, said Biffy Clyro were one of her favourite bands.
"I go to uni in Scotland so I've seen them there and they're unbelievable. The diversity between their albums is great."
Before Biffy Clyro went on stage Labrinth played Let The Sun Shine as the rain fell over Ebrington Square.
"Even though it was raining and I could have fallen and smashed my face, I gave it my all and got as close to the crowd as I could," he said.
"It's all about Derry and Ireland for me in general, every time I come here.
"The crowd have given 100%. I feel like they miss out on artists quite a lot."
Earlier in the day, Ellie Goulding said there had been a "great atmosphere" as she played the Main Stage.
"Nice to see all your lovely faces. OK, I'm feeling a little bit more relaxed now. That's good. I was in a right stress," she said during her performance.
She played hits such as Anything Could Happen and I Need Your Love, her collaboration with Calvin Harris.
Jason Adair, 25, said she was "by far the best act" of the day.
"She was loud, she was proud, she was everything. She just exerted everything.
"She's everything this city is about. She was impressive."
Other highlights of the day included Iggy Azalea performing to a packed crowd on the In New Music We Trust stage.
The Australian rapper brought on six gold and silver clad dancers, fairground memorabilia and a gold glitter fountain and had the audience joining in with her track Work.
Alt-J, Bring Me The Horizon, Kodaline, The 1975, Foals, Laura Mvula and Frightened Rabbit all performed too.
This is the first time Radio 1's Big Weekend has returned to a previous host city, with Derry previously holding the event in 2004.
Gates will open at around midday in Londonderry on and Sunday 26 May.
